Rehab for Eminem ...
Eminem is undergoing treatment for a dependence on sleep medication, his publicist said. The announcement, made late Thursday, came two days after the Grammy-winning rapper canceled the 12-date European leg of his Anger Management tour, citing exhaustion and unspecified medical issues. The tour was scheduled to end with a Sept. 17 performance at Slane Castle in Ireland. Since releasing his first album in 1999, Eminem has kept a demanding schedule. He has since produced three other solo studio albums (including the best-seller of 2002, "The Eminem Show," which has sold 9.4 million copies), two albums with his rap crew D12, and a soundtrack to his semi-autobiographical film, "8 Mile." Last month, the rapper, whose real name is Marshall Mathers, denied reports that he planned to retire from recording and touring. Paul Rosenberg, his manager, said at the time that Eminem's current album, "Encore," was "the close of the first chapter of Eminem the recording artist." He added, "To speculate beyond that is just a guess." Eminem's current tour, with 50 Cent, had suffered from lackluster box-office sales, compounded by what analysts regarded as high ticket prices and the historically weak track record of live rap concerts. Before the news of his medication dependency, Interscope Records, the label that distributes his albums, was in the early stages of planning an Eminem greatest-hits package, intending to release it the next few months; it is now unclear when the project will be completed. Arts & Leisure (August 21, 2005)... and for Courtney Love
Courtney Love tearfully admitted using drugs in violation of her probation terms in Los Angeles County Superior Court yesterday and was ordered into a 28-day drug rehabilitation program, avoiding a jail sentence, The Associated Press reported. Ms. Love, 41, was in court for allegedly being under the influence of a controlled substance, which was not identified. She was told to enter a drug treatment facility by the end of the day. The judge, Rand S. Rubin, ordered her back to court on Sept. 16 for sentencing on the probation violations. "There will be sentencing and some further consequences at that time," Judge Rubin said. "I think you either need a long-term drug program or a long term in county jail." In July, a judge praised Ms. Love for making progress in a court-ordered drug treatment program. The treatment is tied to a misdemeanor count of being under the influence of a controlled substance in 2003 when, the police said, she tried to break into a former boyfriend's home.
